How we met
Gatu.
Gen and I
weren’t fond of cats a few years ago. But all of this changed one night. It was
Sunday and I was coming from the bakery. When I came in, Gen saw me and asked about
the cat behind me.
I didn’t
realize that a kitten had followed me home until then. It was a small little
creature with grey and black colors. We sort of adopted the cat and named it
Meow. Meow grew fast, we she was a good companion and it used to be very
communicative with the meows that gave her the name.
One terrible Friday
Meow didn’t wake us up as she used to do. She was fond of leaving the house
from time to time but always was back in the morning, we were very sad to find
her death in front of the house. In a few time she managed to become an
important part of our house, and our shock was such that Gen and I weren’t able
to sleep well that night.
We needed a
cat to make our house feel peaceful again, we needed a companion and we decided
to adopt one. We went to a nearby mall that usually has adoption events, there
we met her.
Botitas (Mittens;
The name given by her rescuer) was saved from a place where people usually abandon kittens. She had a little fracture on the tip of her tail, Martha, the woman
who rescued her promised that if we adopted her, she’d take care of the
sterilization process when the kitten grew a bit older. We accepted and we took
Mittens home with us.
She was quiet
and liked sardines. And we say liked because now she loves them, and isn’t as
quiet anymore. She has grown to be a gracious member of our family. When
Nathaniel was born and started crying she would approach him as if she were
concerned.
We changed
her name because she wouldn’t pay attention when we called her Botitas or
Mittens, but if we call her Gatu she comes and even answers back with a meow.
She’s a great hunter and very clean as well. Sometimes I’m on the computer and
she climbs to my lap and sleeps there.
She doesn’t
like to go out, but she loves boxes. She’s always in the house, an aura herself
that if missing, we would feel terribly incomplete. She’s a great part of the
family and we are thankful for meeting her. If you have the chance to adopt a cat, please do so. They are not like dogs (and we do love dogs as well) but if
you open up to them, you might find great things.
